WHAT THEY DO
This local charity has a simple but life-changing mission: To improve the lives of children and young people with caring responsibilities. They believe young carers are children first and should be free to develop emotionally and physically and to take full advantage of opportunities for educational achievement and life success. They achieve that aim through a vast array of programmes and support. You can find out more here.
WHY IT MATTERS
Having listened first hand to not only some of the children who are currently supported but also to their parents (who also receive life changing support) this cause is most definitely something to believe in. Having previously received lottery funding, the charity has a big fund raising need and every small amount can truly make a difference.
WHAT ELSE YOU CAN DO
Interested in helping in other ways? Winchester & Distrcit Young Carers are also in need of some crucial volunteers:
Young Carers Exploration Programme
This provides the young people with the opportunity to meet other young carers, share their thoughts, feelings, needs and concerns.
(Wednesday evenings during term time)
This provides the young people the opportunity to have time out from their caring role and the chance to have fun and relax.
(During the day in school holidays and occasionally in evenings during school term)
The trustees play a vital role in overseeing the effective delivery and development of the project.
(Meets a minimum of four times a year on Monday afternoons 2-4pm)
